As
the race for the National Assembly leadership and particularly, the House of
Representatives gathers steam, a lot of interest has been generated among civil
society groups, parliamentary advocates, social affairs commentators and the general
public. In a recent parley with media men in Abuja, a non governmental agency
advocating responsible democratic governance, the Good Governance Coalition (GCC)
has cautioned the incoming and returning House of Representatives members on
the need to elect a credible, resourceful, articulate and well regarded member
as House Leader in order to move house business, process, procedure and
legislation to the next level. According to the GCC communiqué: “our highly
respected Honourable Members should deem it fit to rally around a candidate
whose record of team spirit, camaraderie and co-operation is legendary
and cuts across all ethnic, religious, sectional and linguistic boundaries. He
should have a deep and vast knowledge of parliamentary, process, procedure,
deliberation and deal making, pivotal to managing the affairs of the 360 member
legislative body. Also, the candidate should have the capacity to deliver the
goods while taking the House to lofty heights of achievement, excellence and
exemplary performance. All reliable indices posit that Rt. Hon. Ahman Pategi matches all the above qualities and he is
the right man for the job in all material particulars”. – the GCC statement
signed by it’s National Co-ordinator, Barrister Abimbola Williams concluded.
Rt. Hon. Ahmed Pategi a third term member of the House of Representatives, represents the people of Edu/Moro/ Pategi federal constituency. He is the past Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources.
