The YOUTH SAY YES FOR CHANGE INITIATIVE YSYCI has criticized the call by the National leadership of the All Progressives Congress APC on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the crisis enveloping the National Assembly. The group in a press statement signed by its National Coordinator Comrade Nwokoma Messiah said such calls was against the tenets of democracy and separation of power.
The group said it was wrong for the APC which has always
criticised the intervention of the Executive arm on issues concerning the
legislature to now turn around to urge the
executive to intervene in matters concerning the independence and
sanctity of the legislative arm of government.
The group faulted the decision of President Buhari to host
the Ahmed Lawal faction of the Senate when he is yet to receive the President
of the Senate almost one month after he was elected by the members of the
Senate on the day of the inauguration. “Mr. President disappointed Nigerians
when he opted to receive the Ahmed Lawal faction of the Senate when he is yet
to formally receive the leadership of both houses of the National Assembly. His
action is tantamount to promoting anarchy and acrimony on the floor of both arms
of the National Assembly” the group said
The group urged Nigerians especially elder statesmen in the
country to intervene in the crisis ravaging the National Assembly stressing
that it is capable of derailing the change promised Nigerians. “if the
situation is left unchecked the way it is today, the change promised Nigerians
by the ruling party will be derailed and it is the image of the President that
will be dented and not that of those prodding him to take actions that are not
in consonance with standard democratic procedures” The YOUTH SAY YES FOR CHANGE
INITIATIVE posited.
