A CHIEFTAIN of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, Sen. Emma Anosike has resigned his membership of the party, citing intractable intra-party crises that have prominently shadowed the state chapter of the party from 1998 till date. This came as the Minority Whip of Ebonyi state Assembly joined the PDP.
Sen. Anosike Anosike, a founding member of the party, who represented Anambra North senatorial district in the Senate, also pointed at the failure of the national leadership of the party at ensuring fair-play in the state level as being among the reasons for his decision. In a letter to the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Ali Sheriff, Anosike chronicled the crises that had characterised intra-party affairs in the state since 1998. His words:
‘’It is more repulsive to any decent mind or interested spectator to behove the serial clamp-down and destitution of a people’s destiny. The rights to good governance, good life and a protective umbrella of the party structure and citizens seem to have been delegated to the dogs leading to utter repression and extortion.”
Meanwhile, the Minority Whip of Ebonyi state House of Assembly, Hon. Anthony Nwegede yesterday joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after being elected on the platform of Labour Party (LP) during the last general election.
Announcing his defection to the PDP during a plenary at the floor of the House, Nwegede said his former party has been in crisis since after the general election and that the crisis has become intractable and all efforts made to resolve it had overtime proved abortive.
He said having seen that the crisis cannot be resolved, it became imperative for him to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state. Nwegede maintained that the PDP in the state was very strong, united and has bright future than every other political party in the state.
