The book is written by Hon. Ayuba Mohammed Bello, member representing Jere Federal Constituency of Borno state in the 8th National Assembly. Hon. Ayuba is an Alumnus of University of Maiduguri. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Public Administration and Masters Degree in Business Management from the University of Maiduguri.
Ambassador of University of Maiduguri in the Nigeria’s 8th National Assembly (An account of less than 365 days of stewardship/legislative performance of Hon. Ayuba Mohammed Bello), is a manifestation of the author’s desire to put on records his modest contributions and vibrant representation of his constituents in the House of Representatives, while ensuring sustainable democratic polity in Nigeria.
The book was written and published as his contribution to mark and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the University of Maiduguri.
As I read through - Ambassador of University of Maiduguri in the Nigeria’s 8th National Assembly, I see a man who is committed to accountability, transparency and sharing with Nigerians his experience in Nigeria’s 8th National Assembly.
As Hon Ayuba succinctly puts it, “the book is an attempt to put together in a textual form the practical experience of the Nigeria’s 8th National Assembly in the perspective of a serving member of the House of Representatives anchored on a spirit of accountability and aimed to stimulate and encourage those who occupies public offices, future leaders and some legislators to imbibe the spirit of accountability for every responsibility placed on them”.
The 163 pages book among other things highlighted the strategic place of Jere Federal Constituency in the socio-economic and political arena of Nigeria and to give an account of the legislative responsibility assigned to the author by the mandate of the people of his constituency who elected him to represent them in the National Assembly.
And more importantly, portray the least example of the performance of the alumni of the University of Maiduguri across the globe and as a mark to identify with the historic and eventful day of its 22nd convocation ceremony and celebration of the university’s 40th anniversary.
While executing this work, adequate care was deliberately taken by Hon. Ayuba Mohammed Bello to ensure that the book does not unduly dwell on the less than 365 days of his stewardship and performance in the lower legislative chamber.
The book also delved into other issues and topics that may be of importance to Nigerians and anyone who reads this didactic document.
It covers areas such as the functions of the National Assembly, sources of power of the National Assembly, committees and their composition, code of conduct for the members of the 8th House of Representatives, instruments for carrying out legislative business of the National Assembly as well as the application of powers of National Assembly.
This book is invaluable to students, lawyers, members, staff and management of the National Assembly, politicians, law students and indeed any member of the public who desires knowledge of the workings of the National Assembly.
For anyone who wants to keep abreast with the compositions and workings of the National Assembly, this book is a must read. The book is written in a simple language with easy to read summaries in 10 key sections (chapters).
