Niger lawmaker vows to fight implementation of pension scheme

Member, representing Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State Assembly, Hon. Abdulmalik Madaki Bosso, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Labour and Productivity has reiterated his determination to continue to fight for the full implementation of the repelled new pension scheme in the state.

Bosso, who made the declaration last weekend in an interview with journalists in Minna, said that the joint committee on a bill to revalidate the contributory pension scheme which he chaired, faced a lot of obstacles at the course of carrying out its mandate but were overcome.

He intimated that they were confronted, intimidated, threatened and pressured, but remained focused and unshakable due to the cooperation received from colleagues and majority of Nigerlites which gave him the courage to succeed.

The lawmaker stressed the need to have majority behind you at the course of carrying out responsibility in the interest of the people without having any personal interest, adding that some part of government as well on the part of general public challenged their decision, but with the change mantra, the interest of the majority supersede personal or group interest.

While presenting the report before the House last weekend, Bosso stated that “in view of the foregoing the civil servants are not disposed to the contributory pension scheme as expressed during the public hearing, looking at the shoddy implementation that created more problems to retirees, the committee recommended that the Bill be passed into law with a proviso that.

“All those who took up employment before the commencement date of the law be exempted while those who took up employment at the commencement of the law in 2006 when the law came in to force are automatically part of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS)”.

Bosso stated that the routine created by the 16 years of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), explained that the country needed revival which President Muhammadu Buhari is trying to put in place.
