The National Youth Council of Nigeria in Rivers State has reacted to the controversy generated by the disqualification of the PDP candidate in Akuku-Toru constituency two by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The youth body threatened to shut down the INEC office on Aba road in protest if the commission failed to reverse its decision.
Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state chairman of the youth council, Sukubo Sara-Igbe said it was wrong for INEC to disqualify a candidate who had been announced winner at the collation center.
“It is wrong to disqualify a candidate that has already been declared winner by over 22,000 votes in an election.
“We are calling on the National Chairman of INEC to wade into this matter because the REC is trying to cause crisis in Rivers state,” Sara-Igbe said.
Meanwhile, the legal representatives of PDP candidate in the rerun election for Akuku-Toru State Constituency-Two, Tonye Awari Alalibo has faulted claims by the INEC that he was disqualified by the Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
The lead counsel Festus Ogwuche told DAILY POST that there was nowhere in the judgment of the tribunal and the Court of Appeal where his client was disqualified.
