The Rivers Democrats a non-governmental Organisation based in Rivers state has urged the Senate to screen and clear ex-governor of Rivers state Rotimi Amaechi for ministerial appointment.
The group in a press statement signed by its National Publicity Director Adams Ogbonna said it is imperative that the former governor be cleared.
The group wondered why some persons will be fighting against the nomination of the former Rivers governor considering the fact that he sacrificed a lot to bring about the emergence of the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Rivers Democrats praised the president for nominating Rotimi Amaechi despite the opposition to his nomination. “President Muhammadu Buhari has shown that he is a man that cannot be pushed around through his nomination of Rotimi Amaechi. Those opposed to his nomination mean no good for the state and the country . If there is any man in Rivers state that deserves to be appointed minister under the present administration, Rotimi Amaechi fits the bill. Those opposing his nomination are politically blind to the fact that the former Rivers governor means well for the people” The group posited.

The Rivers Democrats also hailed Rivers politicians that have stood behind the governor as he is going through his ordeal. It said the politicians who have stood behind the governor are the true lovers of Rivers state. It said posterity will vindicate their positions today. “It is imperative to give kudos to Rivers politicians who have stood behind the governor despite opposition from some quarters. People like Senator Wilson Ake and co who have come out openly to stand behind the former governor will be vindicated by posterity in due course. It is based on this that we call on those fighting his nomination to have a rethink and support his nomination in order to make Rivers state better. We shouldn’t be blinded by sentiments or allow it to erode our rationality” said the Rivers Democrats.
