“We Must Have Peace” Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara


The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has called on the people to pursue peace. The Speaker made this known while thanking the people Bogoro/ Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency who paid him a congratulatory and solidarity visit at the National Assembly Complex.
The Speaker said it is imperative that the people learn to forgive one another in order to achieve peace. He said the people owe it as a duty to build peace in the community. He called on stakeholders in the country to imbibe the culture of peace building by eschewing hate.  On the issue of Boko Haram, he said it is imperative that the issue is dealt with from the root stage rather than mere dealing with the symptoms. He said the people will achieve greater peace by stopping the manipulation of religion.
Rt. Hon Dogara said if the people can stop manipulating religion then the country will have sustainable peace and posterity will be better for it. He said there is no problem that does not have solution insisting that if the right thing is done, the issue of Boko Haram will be solved.
On the issue of constitutional role for traditional rulers, he said the last constitutional amendment made roles for traditional rulers but was not accented by the former president but he promised that the present assembly will take another look at it and in no distant time there will be constitutional recognition for traditional rulers.
He promised the people that he will not forget his primary aim in the house which is to give them effective representation. He said he will root for the construction of rural roads in his constituency which will aid the movement of goods and services in the constituency.
The Speaker urged the people not to fail to pray for him and the nation’s leaders. He said if the leaders do not do well, the country will suffer hence it is important that the people pray for the leaders irrespective of whether they love them or not.
He said the people of Tafawa Balewa has served the country meritoriously without selfishness.

Earlier in a speech delivered by the head of local government administration of Bogoro Local Government Area, the people commended the leadership style of the Speaker. They also urged the members of the House of Representatives to continue to support the Speaker in order to move the country forward.
