A former member of the Ekiti
State House of Assembly, Ayodeji Odu, has said a former factional speaker of
the state assembly, Mr. Dele Olugbemi, deserves the unfair treatment he is
receiving from Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Odu, in a telephone interview
with our correspondent on Thursday, slammed Olugbemi for crying foul over
alleged unfair treatment he got from Fayose.
It will be recalled that Olugbemi
and six other members had last November impeached the then substantive Speaker
of the Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, and suspended 19 All Progressives Congress
members of the assembly.
Odu was among the 19 APC
lawmakers who left the state because of threat of harassment.
Olugbemi and the six other PDP
members of the Assembly stopped the 19 APC lawmakers from impeaching Fayose
over alleged abuse of office.
The cordial relationship between
Fayose and Olugbemi has, however, gone sour as Olugbemi, on Wednesday, rejected
his nomination as a member of the House of Assembly Service Commission.
Olugbemi added that he was
shocked about the manner his appointment as a member of the commission was
announced in the media without Fayose first consulting him.
But Odu , who represented the
Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency II in the last Assembly, said the disagreement
between Olugbemi and Fayose had vindicated his stance that Fayose could not be
trusted.
The APC lawmaker said the situation
in the state was appalling and that Olugbemi was reaping the fruits of his
‘illegal act’ during the political crisis that rocked the state last year.
Odu said, “What is happening
between Fayose and Olugbemi serves the former illegal speaker right. It is a
clear indication that he was just used and dumped and it is very unfortunate
for Nigeria’s political system.”
