Oyo Assembly commences Yoruba session

In a bid to enhance effective participation and contribution to legislative business in the assembly, the 8th Assembly in Oyo State, on Wednesday, commences Yoruba session.

The session, which was presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Micheal Adeyemo, witnessed members dressing in native attire and making meaningful contributions on issues on the floor of the House.

A lawmaker, Hon. Wumi Oladeji from Ogbomoso North, who spoke with Daily Times on the development said, “The Yoruba session gives rooms for member to freely express their opinion and views on issues concerning growth of the state.”

Part of the motion moved during the session was the issue of food processors, who uses road sides to dry farm products such as cassava flower, maize and other product.

The initiator of the paper, Hon. Joshua Olagunju Ojo said the paper was presented to the House based on the need to caution rural dwellers on the usage of highways as drying centers for their product

“We know what farmers passes through in the process of making food available but the final stage, which is drying the products should be done in a descent manner that will not affect them and the consumers of the products” Ojo said.

Hon. Josuha Oyebamiji, representing Akinyele Constituency, seconded the motion, while Hon. Gbenga Oyekola from Atiba Local Government, Hon. Abdulwasiu Musa, Deputy Speaker, Hon Rafiu Akinkunle, Ibarapa East and others, lauded the motion, while positing that it will enhance food production and save the people from hit and run motorists which is rampant on the highways.


While Hon. Olalere Sefiu Adekunle from Ido, urged the state House of Assembly to appeal to the state government to provide a concrete floor of about five hectares of land in each of the rural communities, to dry their product without stress. Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige said the Ministry of Health should be implored to sensitise the people in the rural area regarding this.
