Deputy Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Yusuf Lasun, on Thursday, August 20, 2015, said there was no
rift between himself and the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.
According to him, reports that
the Speaker was planning to strip him of his duties as punishment for some
unmentioned infractions was not true and should be discarded.
In a statement issued by his
Chief Press Secretary, Wole Oladimeji, the Deputy Speaker said the issue was conjectured
by enemies who want to cause division between the presiding officers of the
House of Representatives.
“The office of the Deputy Speaker
has read with disgust another attempt to sow seed of discord in the House of
Representatives by their phantom claim that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu
Dogara, is stripping the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yussuff Sulaimon Lasun, of
the statutory duties of the deputy speaker.
“This report is not only a
conjecture emanating from minds of the usual ‘our report or inside sources.’
“While the office is disinclined
to reacting to ill-intentioned reports promoted by external forces, we owe it
to the unsuspecting public to clarify issues and let the sponsors stew in their
concoction of lies.
“The public should, therefore,
discount this report and await the renewed zeal of members to serve Nigeria
upon resumption under the leadership of Speaker Yakubu Dogara and ably assisted
by the deputy speaker,” the statement read in part.
