I have known Sen. Magnus Abe from afar since his days as a member of the Rivers state House of Assembly and later Commissioner then Secretary to the Rivers state government. If I say I did not admire him then I will be telling a big lie. When he became a senator of the Federal Republic, I came to know him one on one. This is a man with a pedigree which made it possible for him to chair a major senate committee like petroleum down stream even as a first termer in the red chamber.
When he signified interest to run for governorship, I was one of the consultants to the project but later had to abandon ship when I discovered that the former governor was bent on not giving him the ticket. I was fast enough to read that the governor did not want to give him the ticket and knew that he Abe was aware that he wont get the ticket. What baffled me and still baffles me till today is why he stuck with the former governor when he knew that the governor had made up his mind to nominate a lesser candidate like Dakuku. I have always tried not to think if the former Governor was blackmailing. If not so then I wonder why a learned man like Sen. Magnus will cheapen himself to the level he is doing today.
Days after the election, he joined this same Amaechi who deliberately wanted the PDP to win by presenting a small fry like Dakuku Peterside alongside another mediocre in the person of Hon. Asita Honourable- a case of two blind men in an absurd protest aimed at saving their face which was bruised by the Wike machine.
If Senator Abe is not been blackmailed to cheapen himself the way he is doing then why should he be acting childish? First he lied about been shot by the police early last year, then he joined the governor in another shameful protest at the office of the Rivers state Independent National Electroral Commission INEC then this very bizarre outing where he was teargassed alongside other motor park politicians like the APC flagbearer who has been severally identified with rascality while he was in the House of Reps, Chidi Lloyd the mace wielding dishonourable member of the last House of Assembly among others.
Sen. Magnus Abe whom I have strong regards for must stop this embarrassment he is giving himself and be responsible otherwise the dirty water of those he is mingling with will stain him and he will find it difficult to get a strong detergent to watch it off.
