La’ah representing Kaduna South Senatoria Zone yesterday poured accolades on
the former Group Managing Director, GMD, of the Nigerian National Petroleum
Company, NNPC, Engr. Andrew
Yakubu, saying his contributions
to national growth and to the Southern Kaduna had not been well acknowledged.
The Senator, who paid a courtesy
visit to the retired GMD in his village in Unguwan Wakili, Zangon Kataf Local
Government Area, LGA, of Kaduna state, said he had come to thank Yakubu for
facilitating the recently completed and now operating second NNPC mega Station
in Kaduna State.
La’ah visited the former GMD as
part of his consultation with stakeholders who have deep knowledge of some
important sectors of the economy to assist him in his Legislative agenda in the
8th Senate.
La’ah said, “I have come here on
behalf of our people to thank you for the last assistance to Southern Kaduna.
The NNPC Mega Station which you brought to Samaru Kataf has started operation
recently. It is a big boost to our people because we can now easily buy fuel at
government control price. This has also helped some young people to get jobs
from there and will go a long way in improving the economic activity of the
area, because most vehicles travelling to Kano, Abuja, Jos, Port Harcourt can
now stop to take fuel at Samaru.
“You have also been in the
forefront of youth empowerment and you have helped many of our enterprising
business persons to prosper.
“While you were the GMD of NNPC,
we witnessed very little queues in filling stations and we maintained steady
oil production of about 2.4 million barrels per day. As the GMD, you were able
to ensure the security of our pipelines and reduce oil theft and vandalism,
through your understanding and positive relationship with all the critical
stakeholders in the sector,” he said.
Responding, the former GMD
assured the senator of his readiness to assist in whatever way he can to the
people, Kaduna State and the country as a whole.
