The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in
Makurdi has adjourned the petition filed by Mr Daniel Onjeh against Sen David
Mark to Sept 17, 2015 for adoption of addresses.
This followed the close of cases on Wednesday by both PDP
and INEC who were also joined in the petition.
When the case came up for continuation of defence, counsel
for the PDP, Mr Chris Alechenu who earlier informed the Tribunal in his reply
to the petition that he would call 14 witnesses decided to call a lone witness.
Alechenu also said that he would rely on the documents
tendered by the first respondent (Mark) to avoid duplication of processes,
explaining that the documents he intended to tender had been tendered by the
first respondent.
Alechenu therefore, closed his case with his lone witness,
Mr Imoni Mohammed who was a ward collation agent for PDP in the 2015 Benue
South Senatorial Election.
Mohammad while being cross-examined by petitioner’s counsel,
Mr Tunji Oso, said that incident forms were used to accredit all voters in his
ward, Onyagede-Icho because card readers did not work well.
However, counsel for INEC, Mrs C. Mamswa who earlier
informed the court that they would be calling three witnesses no longer called
any witness and did not tender any document in evidence.
Mamswa simply told the court that they would be relying
their argument on the submissions of the first and second respondents as well
as that of the petitioner.
The Tribunal Chairman, Justice Mosumola Dipeolu then gave 10
days each to the first and second respondents, seven days to the petitioner and
three days to INEC which she said would run concurrently to file their briefs.
