The Inspector-General of Police,
Mr. Solomon Arase, has defended police investigation into the alleged forgery
of the Senate Standing Orders 2015.
The police boss defended his
action in a preliminary objection opposing a suit filed by the Enugu East
senator in the National Assembly, Mr. Gilbert Nnaji, asking the Federal High
Court in Abuja to restrain the police and the Attorney-General of the Federation
from taking any further step on the allegation.
Kalitaaruku: What is the police
boss telling Nigerians? If it were a common man that was involved, wouldn’t the
police have bullied him into a police cell by now? What is the police chief
saying when the culprits are still moving about freely and even secured by
policemen?
Parry B: Why are the senators who
are involved panicking? I thought it would be wise for them to wait for the
Attorney General’s advice on the saga. Are they afraid to stand in the dock as
accused persons? The law is no respecter of persons.
If they are not guilty, they
should be bold enough to facilitate an investigation into the case instead of
running to the court for an injunction. The era of such orders is now history. No
judge will soil his or her reputation in this era of national rebirth by
granting such injunctions.
George: What are they
investigating and for how long? The police chief does not seem to understand
what he is getting into. If he has a criminal case as he claims, he should go
to court with his findings. Why is the Ministry of Justice reluctant to press
for a charge against the suspects?
The senator that dragged them to
court is silly and his action has helped them to cover their shame. It is
obvious that they are confused, not knowing how to wash off their dirty hands
in a matter that has nothing to do with the police.
There is no law that forbids an
opposition member of the Senate from aspiring to be the Senate President. The
election of Dr. Bukola Saraki and Ekweremadu obeyed all constitutional
provisions, and there is nothing anybody can do about that. A judge of a
competent court has advised those who are complaining to go to the floor of the
Senate to sort out the matter.
