Emir charges Tangale
people on evaluation of elected state Assembly members
THE Emir of Tangale, Abdu Maisheru, has advised the people of
Tangale to create a forum aimed at evaluating the mid-term performance of their
representatives at state House of Assembly.
Maisheru, who was represented by Mr. Naamn Toyyo, District
Head of Todi, stated this in Billiri Local Council of Gombe State at the
weekend during the inaugural lecture of Mr. Rambi Ayala, member representing
Billiri East Constituency, Gombe State House of Assembly.
He said: “It will be good if a forum would be created to evaluate
the performance of your representatives whether they satisfy the yearnings of
their constituents.
“The forum will be of great help in accessing their
performance and it will encourage them to do what is expected of them.”
He also appealed to the people of his domain to avoid
blackmail but to write a constructive criticism.
“Write a suggestion instead of petition, even if it is a text
message, advise them on anything that you think will bring a development to the
community”, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, Speaker, Gombe State House of
Assembly, Nasiru Nono, congratulated the member for organising the inaugural
lecture.
According to him, the lecture was first of its kind in the
entire state, and it is a laudable initiative.
He described Ayala as an asset following his contributions in
the state House of Assembly.
Also speaking, the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Charles Iliya,
said they were expecting a good legislation from the members representing
Billiri East and West at the state House of Assembly.
The deputy governor, who was represented by Dr. Hmma Tanimu,
former Chairman, Billiri Local Council, said the legislators should bear in
mind that they are representing their people.
He said: “Try and rally round the people; do not hide
yourselves, always be patient.
“You need your people’s support, you started well, end up
well.”
In his remark, Mr. Shuaibu Sabulu, Chairman, Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), said if the elected members did not perform, they would
be rejected after their first tenure.
In his speech, Ayala, said that he organised the lecture for
the following reasons:
• To rub mind with my predecessors and see how I can
represent my constituency better and effectively;
• To learn from the experience of those who represented
Tangale in a legislative capacity, thank them and honour them for their
service; and
• We want our predecessors to set an agenda for us to follow
in this political dispensation.
