Stakeholders in Borno Central Senatorial zone have kicked against the alleged endorsement of Sen. Abba Aji as the All Progressives Congress APC candidate for the forthcoming bye election in the state. The position was made vacant by the death of Sen. Ahmed Zanna shortly after his victory in the March 28th polls.
In an open letter to the Borno state governor, a major key player in the constituency Comrade Abba Bukar Abba Masta who is also an ex youth parliamentarian and activist warned the state governor that the APC will be doomed for failure if it fields the former Special Adviser to late President Umar Musa Yaradua and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on National Assembly Matters.
An OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY GOV. KASHIM SHETTIMA, Executive Governor, Borno State.
PROTEST AGAINST THE PLANNED IMPOSITION OF Sen. MOHAMMED ABBA AJI as our party's candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial District By-election.
Your excellency,
Greetings from the vulnerable IDP's of BAMA taking refuge in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
Your Execellency, pardon my medium of communication, I do not have any other expedient means at my disposal knowing the exigencies of the office of the Governor, and most specifically now that you are in far away Washington D.C in company of our President on a state function.
As you read this missive my dear Governor, I will be naïve to think that you will not be advised by your band of loyalists to take me for someone who is not loyal to you or to our great party the All Progressives Congress (APC), which made history as the first opposition party to defeat an incumbent party.
Your Excellency, one thing I have come to realize in my stay on planet earth is that as failure brings forth no qualms, success on its part comes with a lot of enemies and challenges. Aside these challenges, I also have come to the conclusion though debatable to some extent that a success not well managed is as good as failure in the first instance.
Your Excellency, Our great party the All Progressives Congress (APC) which we fought very hard to build and make viable for Nigerians especially the people of Borno state to appreciate has suffered so much ignominy as an opposition party mostly at the center, making room for a lot of easy going and hangers-on politicians to abandon the course, which our ideology as a people from this part of the country have always espoused for the lucre of Federal government packaged enticements in forms of appointments et al.
Your excellency, One of the persons who have benefitted from the abandonment of the position of our people is no other person than SEN. MOHAMMED ABBA AJI a onetime Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ex Special Adviser to former Presidents Umar Musa Yaradua and later Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on National Assembly matters.
Your Excellency, Dr. ABBA AJI As a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during the OBasanjonic days, I can hardly place what he did for the members of his immediate constituency. Boko Haram the deadly sect that has ravaged our State and local government of BAMA over the years, carried out their deadly attacks and destructions without this now born again progressive(?) Senator deeming it appropriate to pay visits to those displaced by the menace perpetrated by these insurgents.
I believe he will not tell us that he was deaf to the cries of those affected by the insurgency or was he blind to see what they were doing against those he now aspires to represent at the Red Chambers.
The late Sen. Ahmed Zanna may his soul rest in peace was a people oriented, grassroots politician who identified with the sufferings of his people. I strongly believe we will be doing him great dishonor and evil if we now replace him with someone who does not match his legacy.
My dear Governor, you will notice that I have come against some of your policies and actions in government. Please do not misconstrue this to be hatred for your person or whatever. Nigerians are used to not taking advice I agree but if you do fail to heed to the patriotic advice I am giving you now, then our party which struggled in the face of oppression from the tyrannical PDP will be seen to be doing the same thing we preached against. A glaring case of George Owen’s animal farm? I pray not.
Imposing Sen. Abba Aji a onetime Senator of the federal Republic of Nigeria who failed as a Senator and who alienated himself from his people even during the worse period of their history will not do our party any good. If this happens, we will regret it because the masses that are better enlightened today than before will do the needful which is to vote for the party with the best candidate that will take care of their interest. I believe this is the last thing you want as the leader of our great party in Borno state.
Your Excellency, As I conclude this missive, I wish to once again implore you to objectively, critically and dispassionately appraise it and use the wisdom of a leader to make a rethink by dumping Sen. Abba Aji in the place he deserves which is the trash can of those who failed to identify with their people even in their time of need.
If my advice is taken, you will realize that I am one of your greatest admirers and not the drum beaters who do not know where the dance will take them to.
May God bless you and continue to grant you the wisdom, knowledge and understanding needed to decipher wolves in sheep clothings.
