The Nigerian Police has said its investigation into the
alleged forgery of Senate’s Standing Order by the Deputy President of the
Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and other principal officers and officials of
the National Assembly, was independent, apolitical and thorough.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu,
who spoke to our correspondent on Saturday, said the first report on its
investigation would be out after the Eid-el-Fitri holidays.
Ojukwu, who denied any witch-hunt, stated that the Police
questioned every suspect in the case during its investigation.
“We questioned anybody that had to be questioned in that
regard. When the report comes out, Nigerians will know. What we have done is
police work and the Police is independent,” he stated.
He said, “The case is under investigation. When we
investigate a case, we don’t want to know who is involved or who is pleased
with it. We will look at the facts of the case and we will give our report.”
“We are through with it. We have made the first report on it
and after the holiday, we shall give further reports.
He declined to give the specific date for the release.
The Police had on Wednesday hinted that they had concluded
their investigations, while their findings would be made public this week.
“The outcome of investigation and legal advice will
determine who to be prosecuted,” Ojukwu had said.
