Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has
shown “love” to American actor and comedian, Bill Cosby, accused of sexually
assaulting over 40 women.
At least 35 women were featured
in a New York magazine cover confessing that Mr. Cosby sexually assaulted them
at one time or another in a span of five decades.
On July 7, PREMIUM TIMES reported
that Mr. Cosby had admitted raping women “in a 2005 deposition related to a
civil case brought by Temple University sports staffer, Andrea Constand, who
told police that Mr. Cosby had drugged and raped her in Pennsylvania”.
On the strength of the various
accusations against him, Mr. Cosby was forced to resign from the board of
trustees of Temple University in December 2014.
An honorary title and status of
Chief Petty Officer given to him by the U.S. Navy in 2011 was revoked last
year, just as NBC cancelled a comedy show he was developing.
But while the world is condemning
Mr. Cosby’s conduct, Senator Sani appeared to side with the actor.
When Time magazine tweeted that
the Bill Cosby endowed professorship at the Spelman College was discontinued,
Senator Sani expressed displeasure over the development.
The Nigerian senator replied Time
magazine through his Twitter handle @shehusani that “We still love #Cosby”.
Senator Sani neither responded to
our reporter’s phone call nor replied the text message sent to him seeking his
reaction.
