The investigative panel of Osun
State House of Assembly constituted by the Speaker, Najeem Salaam, has summoned
Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oleyede who petitioned the assembly accusing that the
state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, and his deputy, Mrs. Titilaoye Tomori, of
impropriety to appear before it omorrow at the assembly complex.
In a statement signed by the
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Goke Butika, the panel in a letter
signed by its chairman who doubles as the Deputy Speaker of the assembly,
Akintunde Adegboye, asked Justice Oloyede to appear before the panel with her
evidential proofs to substantiate the allegations raised in her petitions
According to the letter, “You are
to appear before the panel constituted by the Speaker, Hon. Najeem Salaam,
saddled with the responsibility to investigate the allegations raised in your
petition, and you are enjoined to appear with your evidences to substantiate
the allegations.”
The panel chairman also disclosed
that no form of fanfare, pro or anti protesters would be tolerated within the
premises of the assembly, asserting that no trouble makers would be allowed to
disrupt the peace of the state.
The state House of Assembly has
recently put a stop to speculations making the rounds that it was attempting to
sweep the petition written by a serving judge, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede,
against the state governor under the carpet.
The speaker, Salaam, had
consequently inaugurated a seven-man committee that will look into the
petition, seeking a probe that will lead into the impeachment of the governor.
Announcing the committee during a
press briefing at the state assembly, Salaam said the committee would work for
two weeks and come up with their recommendation, urging them to carry out the
assignment without prejudice.
He recalled that Justice
Oloyede’s petition had triggered reactions that led to protests from different
rights activist groups and different opinions from stakeholders.
In his address, Salaam said: “I
acknowledge that the entire world is waiting for what we have to do with the
petition forwarded to us by Justice Oloyuede. I must disclose to you that
Aregbesola has obliged us his response to the petition and we have constituted
a committee to look into the matter with a view to investigating the
allegations levied against him, and I am confident that the lawmakers in the
committee would do justice to the matter before them without fear or favour.
“Let it be known that we shall
treat the petition with all commitment, because it emanates from a serving
judge of the state.”
The speaker assured the public
that justice would be done, contending that “the petitioner approached us
because of the trust she has in the assembly.
The committee member are:
Hon, Owoeye Timothy, Oladoye Folorunso,
Adebayo Waseeu, Akinola Olasunkanmi, Ogunsola Oyeleke, Afolabi Olalekan with
Adegboye Akintunde as the chairman.
Reacting shortly after the
inauguration, the lawmaker representing Ife Central, Makinde Oladejo, expressed
dissatisfaction over the composition of the committee, saying the minority was
excluded.
He said: “Though we are not here
to serve as opposition, but what are the criteria they used to compose the
committee that I did not have? How would you do such a thing without the
opposition and the minority leader?”
Stressing that all members should
be carried along, Oladejo said: “Though, the majority may have their way, the
minority will always have their say.”
