Abuja - There was a mild drama on the floor of the Senate on
Tuesday when Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) addressed the Senate President,
Abubakar Bukola Saraki as Speaker, reports NewsDay.
Melaye had during plenary of the upper chamber stood up to
raise a point of order 41(b) over the alleged illegal disengagement of workers
of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) ,when he addressed Saraki as
Speaker.
Instead of saying, “The Senate President sir”, Melaye said,
“Mr. Speaker sir”.
The goof by Melaye shocked his colleagues, who murmured and
laughed at him for almost two minutes before the situation was brought under
control.
Saraki, however, ignored Melaye’s mistake and granted his
plea and allowed him to tender the petition.
Melaye is one the strong loyalists of the Senate President
and was the one that seconded the motion for the election of Saraki as Senate
President on June 9.
