The Youth Say Yes Initiative For Change has described the Speaker of the House of Representatives as a man that cannot be trusted. The group said Nigerians must beware of the betrayal tendencies of the Speaker whose sole aim it said is to stay in power at all cost.
The group made this known by a statement signed by its National Director of Mobilisation Benjamin Etuk. The group said it is regrettable that the country will be having the most compromised House since 1999. The group said it is a shame that the Speaker of the House had to do the bidding of the President who ordered them not to sit until they sort out their differences which was predicated on sticking to the position of the All Progressives Congress APC as regards appointing Femi Gbajabiamila as leader of the House. “As much as we are not against Femi’s emergence as Leader, we are concerned that the Speaker had to bow to the pressure of the President to make such appointment. This shows he is not independent minded and this is bad for the independence of the House under him.
The YOUTH SAY YES INITIATIVE FOR CHANGE said it is regrettable that the House leadership which Nigerians supported when it emerged on the 9th of June can sacrifice the independence of the legislative arm of government on the Alter of party supremacy. It said as far as Nigerians are concerned, the independence of the legislature is far more supreme than the interest of the party.

The group lampooned the President for desecrating the independence of the legislature after assuring Nigerians that he will not do such. The group described his actions as a slap on the face of the Nigerian people who voted in the House members. The group urged the President not to bully the members into towing his line saying that such actions does not portend well for the Nigerian legislature. “Former president Obasanjo during his draconic days as President did not in any way intrude in the affairs of the legislature…  It is very worrisome that the President who gave so much posture as a democrat and his party which claims to be a progressive party will be involved in the erosion of the independence of the legislature. This is disgraceful as it is  despicable and it is important that Nigerians  no matter where they come from or their political divides stand up against this tendency” the group said.
